Particle Blast (unusual flixel game)
« on: Fri, Feb 19, 2010 »
Greetings fellow coders,

I created a flixel-powered minigame during the last few days. It's nothing special beside the abuse of some emitters  ;D

Feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers

funny little game, well executed.
More levels please ;)
The Flixel mouse cursor is going under the mochi scores window, I used the system cursor but is there a way to use the Flixel cursor instead ?

Thanks for the feedback, luc.
Glad you like it :)

I'm gonna make a second part with more levels and some more features.
Unfortunately I don't know if there is a proper way to integrate the mochi-score system within flixel without having any "self-defined" mouse-cursor problems.

Any knowledge appreciated :D

Thanks

This is simple but awesome! Great fun!

Maybe you could add a meaning to the different colors, like give a bonus when you manage to clear long rows of the same color? Not sure if that'd really improve the game - just came to my mind.

It would be nice if you expanded the actual size of the game to include a buffer around the actual playfield. Any time you need to head towards the edge, it's easy to have the mouse spill out of frame, which is annoying.

If you're interested, here's a recently released newgrounds game which uses the same game concept:

It seems though the Level Backgrounds are just for decoration, you cannot crash into them, or bounce of them. I can fly through grey areas. Understand it must be easy to suit casual players but I think it's wrong to fly through what look like walls

I initially thought I would crash into the backgrounds too. Great game though, especially the 42 level :p

hi again,

thanks for all the feedback so far. It's been quite a while since I messed around here... but there's a little update:

I ported a version of this game over to the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad using Adobe's iPhone Packager (including additional 15 maps - 30 in total). It's not based on the flixel engine though (due to the lack of fps) and so I had to cut some of the eyecandy effects.

In case anyone is interested: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/particle-blast/id397706521?mt=8
