AS3 colors are a little weird as they are represented at ARGB instead of RGBA so if you want red in your emitter use the number 0xFFFF0000. two number for each space, in Hexadecimal.

I use Flash CS3 to find color values.
If anyone has a free tool, I'd love to see it.

CTRL+SHIFT+K will let you insert a color with FlashDevelop (at your cursor position).
It'll output in 0xRRGGBB(red, green,blue) format, Flixel uses 0xAARRGGBB(Alpha, red, green, blue). Just put another FF infront if you want 100% alpha: 0xFFFF0000
