Please help if you can
« on: Wed, Nov 17, 2010 »
I'm a beginner using flixel trying to create a simple platformer game. The only problem is, i can't seem to find any good tutorials to help beginners to learn exactly how to start. The tutorials i do find are outdated or for an older version of flixel. I would appreciate it if someone can explain to me how to start off. I also have no idea how to use sprites i made my self in a game.

Check out Flash Game Dojo.  There are a lot of great tutorials there for beginners and snippets which can help with lots of situations.

I had the most luck taking apart an already existing game to see how everything worked.
Try this: https://github.com/AdamAtomic/EZPlatformer
(more examples at https://github.com/AdamAtomic)

it's the simplest one i could find, and there are a few more on the github.

as far as implementing your own sprites, instead of using createGraphic, use loadGraphic, and make sure you have embedded and declared your image, check out the FlxInvaders ship.as for details on how that's done.

i hope this helps, it helped me alot.
