Flixel Fluids Demo (with source code)
« on: Wed, Dec 1, 2010 »
Do you know the game PixelJunk Shooter ? Here is a link to a gameplay video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EbsMtEv2CE&feature=player_embedded

This game is awesome, and I was particularly impressed with the water and lava physics.

After some googling I found the following demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bL80G1HX9w&feature=player_embedded

The good news is that the author of this video has published the whole source code in C#. I was able to port the physics code to AS3 using Flixel. It's still a work in progress (especially the rendering part), but it looks promising. I spent a lot of time improving the code's efficiency.

The whole source code is available in Github:

https://github.com/haden/flixel-fluids

And you can view a demo here:

PS: I am having troubles with Flixel's forums so, for the latest updates feel free to check the FGL forum post:

wow very nice, the Pixel Junk Shooter was indeed a great fun! Hope to see more development on this
Creating great game sprites is somewhat of a lost art these days. When we discovered ework, we were extremely impressed with their ability to transform creative concepts into cohesive animations. Partnering with ework has been a great experience!

Not meaning to hijack the thread (it's not even flixel!) but I've experiented with that topic (fluid simulation and rendering in Flash) over christmas and posted a blog post about it (with lots of illustrations) including an interactive sample.
