Problems growing a sprite during runtime

I'm making an "eat and grow game", basically you're a fish, you can eat smaller fish, bigger fish eat you and cause you to die, and eating smaller fish makes you grow, so you can eat even more fish. Previously, to grow my fish, I had been using scaling, but unfortunately, this breaks collisions pretty badly, even when I try to adjust the offset. Would killing the sprite and making a new one every time it eats a fish be the best way to go about my problem then? Just curious as to whether anyone has seen anything similar. Thanks!
