Hi,

I used to work with GraphicsGale and it was cool but it doesn't work under Windows7. So what graphics software do you use. I'm mainly wanted something to deal with animated sprites, like aligning them and whatnot.

I want it to have some kind of animation screen that I can instantly see the changes I do to the sprite sheet.

I don't know about Alex, but I just installed the free version from over here: http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/download.html.
Works fine out of the box, no compatibility modes.

I don't know how useful it is for handling sprite sheets, but  I know that GIMP is both powerful and capable of handling animations.  I bet you could even find a plug-in for it specifically designed for use with sprite sheets.

I use IDraw http://rpgcrisis.net/forums/files/file/34-idraw/

It's crappy, outdated, poorly translated and has some weird bugs BUT it has tools the most other colour indexed pixel editors don't, like smart area selection. And a really simple and dirty animation preview tool.

I really wish someone would make something new with some of the features IDraw has :)/

GIMP or Photoshop for day to day pixelling, Gale for animation. I'm a pixel artist by trade fwiw.

I do most of my pixel art in GIMP or Photoshop.

However, per-pixel work can be a little frustrating in Photoshop because the mouse-to-document accuracy is a little off.  I think it's rounding the coordinates or something because sometimes it registers as the pixel just to the right of where you click.  Other than that I find that I can do pretty much whatever I want to do in those two options.

If it's a tileset for a map then I'll likely do the art DAME, which makes the work very fast and is surprisingly good.

If I'm doing a lot of animation work, or doing per-pixel touchup on sprite sheets, then I'll use GraphicsGale.

I'm not sure what you mean with the photoshop inaccuracy thing, what version are you using? The pencil tool at high zoom has always worked perfect for me but I guess I haven't payed close attention at 1:1. Could potentially be a floored coordinates issue I guess. I use a tablet and not a mouse, too :P

It happens for sure in CS3/CS4, and I've seen other people mention the same thing as well.  It's no big deal though.  If it happens I just Crtl+Z and then click a little more to the left (or use GIMP).  Tablets use better drivers and are much more accurate, so the problem probably doesn't apply with those. It might have also been fixed in CS5/CS5.5

A good tablet is on my "soon to invest in" list. :D

I bet you have 'snap' on :D
With high zoom and snap ON it does exactly that.

And Photoshop is my answer. No problems :) And it suits for other graphics editing aswel.

LOL!  I have snap disabled most of the time, but that's certainly a possibility!  I'm pretty sure I checked for that but I have been known to have temporary lapses of absent-mindedness, especially when I'm overworking myself.  I'll check that next time I'm working on something at high zoom and that happens.

As far as I know, GraphicsGale works with Windows 7... I have it installed right now, in fact.

I mainly use Photoshop, but only because it's the program I'm most familiar with, and it has always served me well :D

But I'm sure Graphics Gale or Gimp would be the same too, once you get comfortable using them.

I have a tablet, but I don't usually use it for Pixel art. It's great for drawing and sketching, but when you need pixel by pixel accuracy, I always end up using the mouse ^^
Maybe I'm just not too used to it yet..
