All Out of Gas -- First Completed Flixel Game
« on: Sun, Mar 27, 2011 »
Hi All,

I just participated in the 48 hour Reddit Game Jam and this is what I came up with using Flixel in 48 hours. I thought I would share with everyone :)

I have it uploaded to Kongregate. The instructions are either in the game or listed on Kongregate. I may make an episode two that's a little longer. This one is only 4 levels due to the time crunch.

Levels were made in DAME and the rest of the game was done using Flixel.

Here is the link: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Izzy545/all-out-of-gas

I would love some feedback!

I can't figure out how to get through the first level.  I collected the oil, and one of the uranium pellets, which expired.  I must be missing something...

You're supposed to hit enter when you're standing over the doorway (the exit). I guess I didn't make that clear enough.

That was made in 48 hours? Including the graphics? Pretty impressive!

I liked the game, there's oviuosly a lot of potential for improvement though.

Pressing "Enter" on the level exit isn't that intuitive / common. I think the down key would work better.

I was a bit surprised that oil wasn't used as fuel for the jetpack, thus the only purpose being score, and that your jetpack basically infinite fuel.

Minimap could be helpful for larger levels.

Although the question isn't directed at me, I guess, I'm not sure what you're talking about. OP's game is made in flash, not HTML(5). I don't think there's a way to "convert flixel code to html". It could work with Haxe, but I haven't tried that and the HTML 5 version would likely have a lot of bugs.

I assume you mean export it to a website?

If you're using an IDE like flashdevelop, every time you build and compile it dumps a .swf file of the game into a folder (probably ../bin)

you just need to upload that .swf file to a host website, or if you're trying to put it on your own website you'll have to embed it into a webpage
