It's a concentration game. It measure your patience.

I do not know anything about ActionScript3 at all until I start learning flixel. Before that, making games using Flash is like a voodoo mystery to me. I used to believe that I need Flash IDE to make it, not knowing that you can

However, I have been programming in other languages before so learning AS3 isn't that hard to me. So I'd say, I don't really need syntax explanation, unless it is something very special or is featured in AS3 only. OO concepts like class, inheritance, overriding etc isn't really necessary for me.

Also, I like a tutorial that teaching by doing. Guiding through a process of making one game as well as explain the reasons behind the solution or the way you choose to do it would be ideal for me.

Thank you guys! The game is out now along with other entries, so don't forget to try them all!

Also since writing in English isn't really my strength, there are many grammatical errors in the game. I'm terribly sorry about that. X( 

I'm thinking about uploading a new version with correct grammars. Let's see if I can get my friend to help me.

Amazing! I've always wanted to do something like this, but I thought it has to do with 3D or Papervision or Away3D so I haven't got myself to learn 3D on flash yet. Can't wait to learn from the source code :D

Yeah, flash isn't really at its best performance when it's running on mac. FPS drop on mac is to be expected, at least for me. :(

I've read that if you're on mac and using Firefox, that will happen. You have to play the game on chrome or other browser :( Weird, I know.

I have an artist buddy. We've known each other for 4 years now, I think. At first I was solo, until I met him. He wants to make animation, and I want to make games. So we compromise and now he's making animation for games :D

Now I have two more members, one is good at communication skill and programming as well. So he deal with business stuffs and sometime dev too. The other guy is good at networking and database ( all the stuffs I don't really like! ), so now I can focus on designing game and coding.

I did something similar to L_O_J idea too, but it's difficult when the object can move to different z-axis. So I made a group of FlxGroup instead, something like a group of layers.

It would be nice if the game can read a script file(text file) from facebook user's note URL. This way I can share the note URL to other player and they can just copy and paste the URL into the game, and play the song I create :D

Thanks you! The game is a point and click adventure + visual novel. So it isn't exactly like a classic visual novel. In the adventure part of the game, the player will be exploring and searching for information or items. The item will determine choices that are available during the visual novel part of the game, leading the game to a different ending :D

I think the game's kinda easy. Maybe using the same goal as cannabalt isn't such a good idea, since this game doesn't have that 'I know I can do better next time!' feel to it.

I'm not sure but how about adding varieties of enemy that is more difficult later on? Or maybe changing the set of environments every fix distance should make it more interesting. Also, it doesn't seem like killing enemies do benefit anything apart from preventing you from losing health.

Instead of using distance as a score, how about having a score in term of points. And when you increase the speed, the points increase faster, kinda like Outrun. This way, killing enemies can increase points. I think trying to kill all the enemies while keeping the high speed is pretty risky, and there should be a reward for that.

The graphic and presentation is nice already, really. Good luck!

This is an entry for 2010 Life.Love.Game Design contest.

Grace's Diary is an interactive visual novel made with Flash and flixel game framework. The game plays out as a point and click exploration/adventure game. There is a lot of dialogue in the game, which players will sometime be given choices to response. DIfferent response or actions will lead the game to a different ending. The game is not a long one, however, and can be finished in about an hour.



I'm not sure whether I can post the game now or not. I'd ask the contest staff first and if they're ok with it, I'll post the link to the game here. :)

Does this happen to anyone? Sometime my FlxButton execute the callback twice or more on one click. It's really annoying and sometime causes strange bug in the game.

I'm thinking that it might be me a mistake on my part, but I decided to ask just in case someone has experienced the same thing. If it isn't flixel, then could you please help me figure out what could be the cuase of this?

I've made sure that there is only one instance of the button exist on the State. I think it happens when I switch state back and forth.
