This is an entry for 2010 Life.Love.Game Design contest.

Grace's Diary is an interactive visual novel made with Flash and flixel game framework. The game plays out as a point and click exploration/adventure game. There is a lot of dialogue in the game, which players will sometime be given choices to response. DIfferent response or actions will lead the game to a different ending. The game is not a long one, however, and can be finished in about an hour.



I'm not sure whether I can post the game now or not. I'd ask the contest staff first and if they're ok with it, I'll post the link to the game here. :)

Does this happen to anyone? Sometime my FlxButton execute the callback twice or more on one click. It's really annoying and sometime causes strange bug in the game.

I'm thinking that it might be me a mistake on my part, but I decided to ask just in case someone has experienced the same thing. If it isn't flixel, then could you please help me figure out what could be the cuase of this?

I've made sure that there is only one instance of the button exist on the State. I think it happens when I switch state back and forth.

It's a memory game with procedural generated funny characters. Trying to find myself a sponsor but I'll let you cool people at flixel play it first :D

- The amount of special bar recovered depending on how fast you finish the stage.

- The time bonus multiplier is ( 2 x Special Power you have + 1 )

- I find giving names to each part helps a lot in memorization:P

Is there a way to convert FlashDevelop project to Flash project? I want to try compiling my flixel game to iPhone using Flash CS5. I know it isn't useful or anything with the new agreements of iPhone OS4, but I still just want to try.

Hello everyone. I have promised that I will finish a tutorial of how to integrate facebook highscore into flixel game. However, due to the amount of work this week, I could only finish the first few part which isn't much, to be honest. :(   So, I decided to post all the links I have found during the research so that it might give you something to start with.


I'll try to finish writing about my experience as soon as possible. Briefly, it isn't much about facebook as it's about SQL and php. The references above should help you to start with getting the user's friend user id. You can then use those user ids as a key to store the userdata into your database on your server through php and sql.

My first attempt to make a flash game integrating facebook api for leaderboard and stuffs.

The game is a your basic bullet hell shmup game. You have to survive for 60 seconds while trying to get as many points as possible. The enemy waves are procedural generated, and will get more and more difficult as time pass. Going up higher on the screen will give you more multiplier. You can also enter slow mode for precise movement by holding left shift, but that will halve down your current multiplier.

This is still beta though. I have yet to implement global ranking and a proper post publish since right now it doesn't look too good. ( I might make just a button for you to click instead. ) Also, I'm thinking about adding MochiAds but with the new flixel I have no idea where to put it. Have to experiment again, I guess.

Anyway, happy gaming! New flixel rocks! The game plays very smoothly on my computer, and I hope it's the same for you guys!

Hello all,
 I'm wondering if there's a way to load an image from a url and use it with the FlxSprite class? Or is there any other way to do this with flixel or integrate it with flixel?  I look at the tutorials on the website and it suggest using loader or movieclip, but I don't know how to properly put those into flixel framework.

 Any help would be greatly appreciate, as this is the last part of my game X(  In case this information might help, I'm experimenting with actionscript facebook api and I've managed to get the player friend's profile picture url now. I want to display those in the highscore scene, and then I faced this problem :(

help / How to actually destroy an object in flixel?

I was wondering how should I really destroy an object of a FlxCore or FlxSprite from the game? There are many things such as kill, destroy, active and exists, which seems to do the similar stuffs. But which one should I really choose?

I'm also wondering how to show a console screen using flixel 1.4? I know that in previous version we can call it by pressing 1, but what about the new version?

help / Problem with swf obfuscator and preloader.

Hello all,
 I've tried encrypt my game with Moji Encrypter and secureSWF. Their ads pre-loader run fine but after the loading is done, the game won't run and reported the following error.

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
   at Preloader()

I have no clue as to what or where should I fix this. My guess would be because I already have a preloader.  Also, I have read Mochi Live Update documentation and it mentions this which seems to be why my game doesn't work

AS3 display list membership

Adobe’s Flash Player treats AS3 SWFs loaded into another AS3 SWF differently than when it’s loaded directly by the browser. In particular, the main object is not added to the display list until after the constructor is called whereas when loaded directly the main object is already attached to the display list. This results in the stage and parent properties being set to ‘null’ (and likely resulting in null object references).

This can usually be worked around by moving any code that needs to interact with the stage being moved to an event listener. Event.ENTER_FRAME, Event.INIT, or Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE events are good candidates for this.

Still, I don't know how to do this or which code of Flixel should I move to those events :(

Anybody experience something like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  :)

I was wondering how to integrate MochiAds into a game made by flixel?  I'm new to flash game dev and I don't have flash so I don't know how to make an empty frame and put the MochiAPI in there :(

Hello all!
I'm remaking a puzzle I used to make in ruby. However, the game heavily relies on mouse, using both two mouse buttons and the wheel. From the document, I only find the way to check the left mouse button. How can I check the mouse wheel and the right mouse button?

This is a remake of a puzzle game I made months ago. The game was inspired by Blocksum and because I'm a math geek lol.

I haven't really done much in AS3 and flash game dev. This is probably my second game ( first one being a shmup done in Flex for the Internet Programming class) I found flixel and it seems like this will be a great time for me to pick up flash for real. I chose this game because it seems like a casual game that should be suitable playing online with online highscore and all ( I hope this is not too far fetch for me).

Right now I got the title screen up and running without the falling numbers like in the original one. But I'll probably redo all the graphic anyway :O

EDITED : Didn't find any sponsors so I put it up on Kongregate. But someone bought the site-locked version so at least it isn't like nobody care about this game! :'D
