Wow thanks a lot guys! I'm still new to flash game dev scene so all those info are really valuable :D

I think the best way is to stick with one mouse button and let all turn right click and mouse wheel to buttons for players to click instead. I believe not all people have mouse wheel too, even though it's pretty normal nowadays.

You're right. I totally forgot about the right click thing X(  Thank you for the mousewheel! I'll look into that :)  Maybe I can change the mouse right to mousewheel down instead.

help / Right click and mouse wheel input for flixel?
« on: Thu, Oct 1, 2009 »
Hello all!
I'm remaking a puzzle I used to make in ruby. However, the game heavily relies on mouse, using both two mouse buttons and the wheel. From the document, I only find the way to check the left mouse button. How can I check the mouse wheel and the right mouse button?

Thank you in advance :)

I find it very useful, thank you very much :)

help / Re: Is flixel better for rotation?
« on: Mon, Sep 7, 2009 »
I once wrote a bullet hell shmup game in Flex for my class project and turns out that the best way is to pre-render the rotated image and store it in an array or some data structure.

I think there's a tutorial to code the pre-render and cache process so you don't have to do it with an image editor. I can't really point a finger to where but I'm sure you can google it :D

Also, I haven't tried rotating that many sprite with Flixel yet so I don't know if it's going to be faster, rotating it normally in Flixel.

@hima pastebin did not help me fiigure out what an identifier is because my question has not been answered can someone in the on this post tell me what I did wrong? Error below

(8): col: 10 Error: Syntax error: expecting identifier before extends.
Pastebin is used to paste the code and then you post the link to the code so people can see your code and check where's the error at. You could also post the code here too.

Also, yayh for the new tutorial chapter! This one is quite a long one and more than I expect! Will be trying it this afternoon :)

I'm Gus from Thailand, 22 :)  I believe I started getting into game programming a bit too late, but I'll try my best.

I started from RpgMaker (heh) and then move on to RpgMaker XP with Ruby scripting , and that's when I start learning a programming language for game programming seriously. I've moved to Game Maker and finish many games and prototypes with that engine. Now I'm learning C++ and D programming language and am trying to make my own engine for a final project.

I've been interested in Flash game dev for a long time too, but for some reasons I couldn't get myself to actually do something about it. Thanks for Flixel, it make this easier than I thought and make me think what I was so scared in the past lol.

games / dotPlus : A math based puzzle game.
« on: Sat, Aug 8, 2009 »
This is a remake of a puzzle game I made months ago. The game was inspired by Blocksum and because I'm a math geek lol.

I haven't really done much in AS3 and flash game dev. This is probably my second game ( first one being a shmup done in Flex for the Internet Programming class) I found flixel and it seems like this will be a great time for me to pick up flash for real. I chose this game because it seems like a casual game that should be suitable playing online with online highscore and all ( I hope this is not too far fetch for me).

Right now I got the title screen up and running without the falling numbers like in the original one. But I'll probably redo all the graphic anyway :O

You can play the game here :

EDITED : Didn't find any sponsors so I put it up on Kongregate. But someone bought the site-locked version so at least it isn't like nobody care about this game! :'D

How big is your game? If you run from your HDD, could it be that it is so fast that you didn't get to see the preloader :O?

I use FlashDevelop and have no problem with at all... The example game Mode works fine for me too :S

Please copy and paste your code to so that it'll be easier for us to help you fix the problem :)

I think the idea behind how the flixel framework works would be nice so we can see the big picture and where we're going. I personally would like to know more about State and how each gamestep in flixel work.  :D

help / Re: Hello world in Flixel?
« on: Tue, Aug 4, 2009 »
Nice one. Now I kinda understand how state works. However, I have tried changing the font face, but I don't know the parameter I should put in here for the fontface , and the documentation isn't clear either.

Should I type in the font name excluding the extension or the font file name with the extension? And do I have to put the font file inside the same folder as the source codes?
